Montpellier eager to climb the ladder as they take on Lyon
- 1989
Saturday’s final match-up sees Montpellier await the arrival of Lyon at Altrad Stadium.
It is a game that both sides will be eager to win to inch towards the top of the table, but Montpellier, particularly, are in dire need to pull their campaign out of the fire after having posted only three wins from thirteen outings.
Luck has been decidedly lacking on the side of Montpellier this season with a number of very close games just not going their way. The frustration must be significant for Fulgence Ouedraogo and his charges who represent a club with a proud reputation and one feels that it is only a matter of time before the team clicks into a rhythm which yields better results.
Case in point, last round saw Montpellier have to stomach a bitter one-point loss (their second of the campaign) to Brive at Stade Amedee-Domenech.
Lyon, overall, have fared better than their opponents thus far, though still some way short of their potential. With seven victories from thirteen outings, they currently hover around the mid-table and, in light of recent form, will no doubt view Montpellier as an opportunity for four points. The last time they tasted victory, however, was at the beginning of December – in Round 13 when they managed a 4-point victory over La Rochelle. Since then, they have been plagued by losses.
Round 7 was the last occasion that these teams clashed, the encounter ending in a 24-20 victory – a result they will be eager to mirror while Montpellier’s aim will be to reverse it.
