Trinder blow for Gloucester: Gloucester fans all over England will wake anxiously this morning, as they sweat on the fitness of centre Henry Trinder who was helped from the field over the course of the weekend. Making his first appearance for the Kingsholm based side after being sidelined since way back in September, Trinder left the field on a stretcher just eight minutes into his side’s convincing 48-10 victory over London Welsh. While director of rugby David Humphreys was hugely impressed and delighted with his side’s comprehensive home victory over a lowly London Welsh outfit, the former Ireland flyhalf did note that the injuries took the gloss off an otherwise satisfying victory. While the full extent of Trinder’s leg issue remains unknown as yet, Humphreys says he fears the worst for the outside centre but will reserve judgement until the reports come back from the Gloucester medical staff. Elsewhere, Humphreys may also be without the services of star back row forward Matt Kvesic for the coming weeks, after the England international was helped from the field nursing a troublesome arm injury, An update on both players is expected in the coming days.
Ban for Hunt: The Queensland Reds have imposed an internal ban on star player Karmichael Hunt, refusing to allow him train with the first team squad, until he faces drug-related charges in court. Hunt, who recently swapped rugby league for the 15 a side version of the game, will go before the courts on March 5th, and until then will not feature on the playing field alongside his new teammates. According to Jim Carmichael, the Reds CEO, it is in the best interest of Hunt that he be stood down from this weekend’s forthcoming clash with the Highlanders in Dunedin. While Hunt will not be allowed train with the First XV squad, he will remain on a modified, monitored program of strength and conditioning to maintain his fitness levels.
