Mick Snowden ruled out for the rest of the season

Melbourne Rebels scrumhalf Mick Snowden will miss the remainder of the Super Rugby season with a foot injury.

Snowden will undergo surgery on Thursday after scans revealed the 29-year-old has suffered a Lisfranc injury to his right foot in the Rebels loss to the Kings in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

Snowden was substituted in the 25th minute in his first Super Rugby start after captain Nic Stirzaker was a late withdrawal following an ankle injury on the eve of the fixture.

“Absolutely devastated that injury has ended my super rugby season prematurely,” Snowden said in an Instagram post.

“I’ve greatly appreciated all the messages and well wishes and I’ll return from this bigger and better.”

Stirzaker is expected to be sidelined for a month while halves partner Jack Debreczeni will miss six to eight weeks with a hamstring injury.

Toby Smith successfully returned from a hamstring injury with his first appearance of the season off the bench against the Kings.

Sean McMahon and Jordy Reid continue to make good progress from a knee and back injury, respectively, with the pair expected to return to action before the international break.
