Lions Watch: Rees-Zammit & Sam Simmonds grab doubles

Louis Rees-Zammit & Sam Simmonds both scored doubles of Gloucester and Exeter respectively has they continued their fine form after their inclusions in the British and Irish Lions Tour.

Wales speedster Rees-Zammit marked his selection by scoring twice as Gloucester claimed a 31-7 bonus point victory over Northampton Saints at Franklin's Gardens.

"It has been an outstanding week for me," said Rees-Zammit, who doubled his Premiership try tally for the season.

"Being picked by the Lions did not really sink in until that night when I had dinner with my brother and my parents on their 26th wedding anniversary.

"I had messages from everyone I know, and more, and I cannot thank enough everyone who has helped me, but my focus is playing my part for Gloucester in the final four matches of the season and getting into the top eight. I am not someone who gets ahead of himself and the players here keep me humble."

In the same encounter, the Wales winger saw his Lions colleague Dan Biggar leave the field after 19 minutes with a concussion after a collision with Billy Twelvetrees.

Meanwhile, Exeter Chiefs trio Stuart Hogg, Luke Cowan-Dickie and Sam Simmonds celebrated their call-ups with a comprehensive 41-10 victory over Worcester Warriors.

Sam Simmonds scored twice, while Henry Slade, Dave Ewers, Stu Townsend and Jacques Vermeulen added one apiece with Joe Simmonds kicking a penalty and four conversions.

Cowan-Dickie was forced off for a head injury assessment during the clash but was able to return after halftime.

In France, Finn Russell had a strong game on attack guiding Racing 92 to a 45-19 win over Clermont. The flyhalf assisted one try but was pivotal in most of the six tries scored.

Russell was forced off the pitch with nine minutes left to play with a head knock after he came worse off while trying to tackle Kotaro Matsushima.
