JWC: Liebenberg thrilled at Baby Boks performance
South Africa coach Dawie Theron and captain Hanno Liebenberg were both thrilled by how their side performed after thrashing Australia to make the semi-finals.
The two sides went into the final Pool B game tied on ten points but were a class apart on Wednesday, with the Junior Boks finishing with six tries as they progressed as the top seeds.
Theron believes the 46-13 win was their best of the tournament so far and was pleased with his side’s dominance at the breakdown.
“This was our best performance so far. We did not start well against Italy, improved a bit against Samoa and tonight we gave a much more convincing display. We did our homework on Australia and knew that they could be dangerous off quick ruck ball, so we contested well in that area,” said Theron.
Liebenberg added to his coach’s thoughts by saying the forward created the perfect platform for South Africa’s dangerous backs to attack from.
“We dominated upfront and that allowed our backs to come into the game. We scored some very good tries and I think the backs can be pleased with the platform that the pack created for them. There were still a few errors that we not happy about, but we now have a couple of days to prepare for our next match,” said Liebenberg.
South Africa will now face England in the semi-final - a re-match of last year’s U20 World Championship Final when the English lifted their second title in a row.
