Jono Gibbes joins Lyon

The LOU Rugby staff will be strengthened for next season with the arrival of Jono Gibbes.

The current coach of the Baby Blacks will act as a consultant and will join Lyon at the end of the U20 World Cup to participate in summer preparation.

-Jono Gibbes has a dual role in New Zealand as head coach of the national U20 team and as resource coach of the Chiefs, where he has taken charge of the development team.

-Prior to his current appointments, Gibbes spent two years as head coach of Clermont Auvergne before being relieved of his duties at the start of 2023.

-Apart from his role at Clermont, Gibbes was also director of rugby at La Rochelle from 2018 to 2021.


-He was also Ulster’s head coach in 2017 and 2018 and had a similar role at Waikato in 2018, winning the Ranfurly Shield, while he served as forwards coach at Leinster (2008 to 2014) and Clermont (2014 to 2017).

-Gibbes played eight tests as a back-rower for the All Blacks, from 2004-05.
