Johnny Maysmerizes France
- 631
While England might have taken France to school this evening there was one man who did most of the teaching. That man was none other than Johnny May. Nearing his 50th cap for the English Johnny proved his worth with another masterclass performance as he took his international points tally past the 100 point mark. And he did this in three easy steps that any aspiring finisher should learn.
Pace - 1st minute
As England had previously done, they were quick off the mark. This time it was the great footwork of another man who is becoming an important threat for England's attack, Elliot Daly. Step in and step out and a well weighted kick was all that was needed from Daly making it look all too easy. With no one home May showed some great pace to chase the kick down and to dot over for Englands first points in the game.
Agility, speed and positioning - 23rd minute
With England leading 11-3 in the 23rd minute, they were looking to exert their dominance in the game. And it came through a well floated pass from Owen Farrell over to a well positioned Johnny May. His positioning caused some doubt in Damian Penaud's mind which allowed him to show great pace and agility to beat his opposite number on the outside.
Even more pace - 29th minute
If the opposition had not learnt about the 28 year old speeds, then it was this try that would have confirmed what a threat this man is. Out of nothing and with no alternative, it was Owen Farrell's clever thinking once again that led to May's third and hattrick try. With a bit of space behind the defence, Farrell stabbed through a cheeky grubber and with great acceleration the England left wing chased the ball down and gathered well for his third.
