Japan confirm a warm up game ahead of Lions Test

Japan have confirmed that they will have a warm-up game ahead of their first-ever test match against the British and Irish Lions at Murrayfield on 26 June.

Jamie Joseph's side, like the Springboks, is yet to play a test match since the Rugby World Cup in 2019 but will have at least one game under their belt before facing the Lions.

A Japan XV will face off against the former Super Rugby side the Sunwolves a fortnight before they face the Lions at Murrayfield.

The clash will also mark the Sunwolves' first game since the cancellation of the 2020 Super Rugby season.

Japan head coach Jamie Joseph has named a large squad ahead of the test against the Lions will 52 players included. He is likely to trim his squad down before travelling to Scotland with the Brave Blossoms also set to face the likes of Ireland, England, Scotland or Wales after a host of tours were cancelled due to travel restrictions. Confirmation of their schedule after the Lions test is set to be made in due course.
