Jamie Stevenson set to retire

Jamie Stevenson set to will retire at the end of the current season.

The scrum-half has spent five seasons with English-side London Scottish but after suffering a number of injuries to his knee the 24-year-old has been forced to hang his boots up following advice from a specialist.

Stevenson made 65 appearances and scored 14 tries for the Scots after breaking into the first team during the 2011/12 season and being a crucial part of the squad that made it to the Championship playoffs for the first time in 2014/15.

He then joined Wasps for the 2015/16 season, and despite scoring against Northampton Saints his opportunities were limited resulting in a returning to Athletic Ground.

Last seasons he made 16 appearances scoring 3 tries. He also represented Scotland at Under 18, Under 20 and 'A' level, adding to his impressive rugby CV.

Stevenson said: "I will be forever indebted to the club after five fantastic seasons here. They've helped me develop and progress to the top level which I cannot thank them for enough.”

He added: "Thanks to the fans who have always been very generous with their support, my sponsors over the years and everyone who has worked behind the scenes to make my time here one that I'll never forget.

Lastly a thanks to all the staff, coaches and players for making it a great five years as part of the team!”

Team Manager Doug Cowie paid tribute to the scrum-half who has been a key figure during his time at London Scottish.

"Jamie has been the model professional player whether at training or on the pitch and became a vital figure in the match day squad over the seasons.

He is well liked by players and staff alike, whilst being a firm favourite with the fans. He will be sorely missed as a player but we wish him well in his new endeavours.”
