James Ryan fit but Leinster sweat over the fitness of key outside back

Ireland lock James Ryan has been given the green light to feature in the Guinness PRO14 Final against Ulster on Saturday (KO7.35pm UK) with Leinster Leo Cullen issuing an injury update on Monday.

Ryan is expected to be available for selection for the Ulster game following his remarkably speedy recovery from shoulder surgery. Ryan was ruled out for up 12 weeks in early August but has returned ahead of schedule and could feature in the final this weekend as well the Champions Cup quarter-final against Saracens. 

There was further promising news for the defending champions with Dan Leavy also in the mix for the final after recovering from a long term knee injury but he and prop Tadhg Furlong face further reviews this week regarding involvement against Ulster.

There is some concern in the backs, however, with Jordan Larmour set to continue to follow the graduated return to play protocols after he was removed for a head injury assessment in the second half of the semi-final against Munster and remains in doubt for the clash.

Larmour's absence with further test Leinster's depth out wide with Dave Kearney missing the semi-final through injury while Fergus McFadden remains unavailable for selection but will look to increase his training load again this week as he steps up his rehabilitation from a calf injury.

There was no further updates on Vakh Abdaladze (back), Dave Kearney (hamstring), Conor O’Brien (hamstring) and Adam Byrne (hamstring).
