Ireland crush USA in Dublin
- 1966
It was a dominate display from the Irish at the Dublin Stadium.
Ireland started the game with four debutants from the Ulster team. Another three started for the first time, while a further four uncapped players were among the replacements.
Debutant Robert Baloucoune scored the first try of the day, running a brilliant line, side stepping defenders and racing to the corner to extend their lead after Carbery kicked a penalty minutes earlier.
Ireland took a commanding lead at the break, racing in four unanswered tries to the three points of the USA. Ireland had the opportunity to extend their lead immediately after the break but Doris lost the ball forward just before the line. Hattingh was given his marching orders after he was judged to have performed a dangerous tackle.
Man of the match Kelleher sealed his fourth try in the 53rd minute to join the list of hookers getting hat-tricks for the day. Ireland ran in 10 tries to the consolidation try of USA, Will Magie, to seal the third victory in the past three years, winning 55-17 in New Jersey in 2017 and 58-14 in Dublin in 2018.
