France booked their quarter-final spot with a hard fought 23-21 win over Tonga in the Rugby World Cup in a Pool C clash. France got off to the perfect start with an early penalty and try to lead 10-0. A second French try saw them extend their lead, but Tonga would have the final say of the first half, with a late try reducing the deficit to 17-7 at the break. An early second half try for Tonga closed the gap to just three points at 17-14. France kept the scoreboard ticking over with two penalties to take a 23-14 advantage into the final quarter. A late Tongan try gave them a chance at an upset victory, but France held on for the win which means their final pool clash against England will decide top spot in the group.
