Highlanders Keep PlayOff Hopes Alive

The Highlanders kept their playoff hopes alive on Friday as they hammered the Waratahs 49-12 in Invercargill.

The bonus point win gave the Landers a slim chance of making the knockout phase of the competition but they do require favours from a few other teams.

The New Zealand outfit scored six tries in the first half, five of those came from individual players and one was a penalty try. The Tahs did manage to get some points,a try, in the first 40 minutes but they were absolutely battered by a determined Highlanders side.

The second half of the game was truly one to forget as both teams struggled with the weather conditions and what seemed motivation.

Both teams managed to score a try each in the second 40 minutes and that was the only points the half sore… The Highlanders lose 13 players at the end of this season, and if this is their last then it will be one to remember result wise.

Top Performers:

Liam Squire: outstanding 48 minutes, strong powerful carries and some huge hits in defence, physical and abrasive.

Tevita Li & Waisake Naholo: both dangerous with ball in hand and looked for work. Had some decent runs and both were rewarded with a try.

Rob Thompson: workmanlike performance, rock solid in defence and a brilliant break to score the final try
