- 1787
Harlequins put the abrupt departure of their head of rugby, Paul Gustard behind them with an impressive 49-17 demolition of Wasps at the Ricoh Arena.
It took just five minutes for Will Evans to dive over from close range to open the scoring, with a Marcus Smith penalty following shortly after. Quins' sensational start continued as a superb break from Louis Lynagh saw him offload to Danny Care, who despite the best efforts from Will Porter in defence, managed to dot down in the corner as the visitors raced out to a 17-0 lead just 15 minutes in.
Smith added a penalty around the half hour mark to keep the scoreboard ticking over, with Wasps getting on the board with a Lima Sopoaga penalty with the final act of the first half. Halftime Harlequins 20-3 Wasps. Alex Dombrandt went over off the back of a strong maul for Harlequins third try just four minutes into the second half.
Wasps needed a response and quick soft hands from Tommy Taylor saw Zach Kibirige over on the right around the hour mark for the hosts first try to make it 10-25. Smith added another penalty for Quins a few minutes later before Louis Lynagh read a Wasps attack perfectly to intercept and canter in to push their advantage out to 35-10. Tom Willis muscled over for Wasps with a pick and go from close range with around ten minutes to play.
A loose offload by Wasps saw Tyrone Green scoop it into the arms of James Lang to streak away from halfway for try number five for Quins. The match would end with yet another Harlequins score, as they were awarded a penalty try with the final play after a dominant maul saw Wasps come in from the side to prevent the try to put the cherry on the cake of an emphatic victory.
