Guinness Pro12 Highlights: Connacht Rugby Vs Cardiff Blues (Round 09)
- 503
Connacht ran out 18-7 winners over Cardiff Blues in this PRO12 clash at The Sportsground today. Cardiff were guilty of a vast number of handling errors, and their discipline at the breakdown was very poor. Connacht dominated at scrum time from start to finish and this dominance eared them a try as well as countless penalties. Connacht got on the scoresheet after 18 minutes when John Cooney touched down following an incredible 5m scrum. Cardiff hit back immediately with a try of their own one minute later which saw Tom James capitalise on a poor pass by Carty to run in an intercept try. John Cooney brought the first half to a close with a well taken penalty as Connacht headed for the dressing room with a three point lead. They extended this lead in the second half with another Cooney penalty. The 57th minute try for Bundee Aki sealed the victory for Connacht and seemed to really kill the Cardiff belief despite the scoreline still being close. A game for Cardiff to forget, whereas Connacht will be delighted to getting the win without having played their best rugby.
