Glasgow Warriors sign Argentine playmaker
- 1982
Glasgow Warriors have signed Argentinian fly-half Domingo Miotti who will join the club from the 2021/22 season, after the Puma put pen to paper with Danny Wilson’s side ahead of the new domestic and European campaign.
The 24-year-old – who will link up with his new club subject to visa - joins fellow signing Duncan Weir and FOSROC Scottish Rugby Academy graduate Ross Thompson as the club’s options at number 10, in a back-line that will also be able to boast new arrivals such as Josh McKay and Sione Tuipulotu.
Born in Tucuman, Miotti burst on to the scene in 2019 with one of the most remarkable Super Rugby debuts in recent years; with the Jaguares trailing to the Bulls with 10 minutes to play, his two late tries saw the Argentinian franchise claim a stunning victory at Loftus Versfeld.
That debut firmly established the fly-half in the Jaguares squad that were only denied a famous Super Rugby title by the Crusaders, with Miotti coming off the bench in the 2019 Super Rugby final in Christchurch.
In total, he made 16 appearances for the Argentinian franchise, scoring 107 points across two seasons with Gonzalo Quesada’s men.
A move to Western Force for the 2021 Super Rugby AU season followed, with the fly-half joining a back division including established internationals such as Tevita Kuridrani and Rob Kearney.
Miotti made his senior international debut in the 2020 Rugby Championship, coming off the bench to score a crucial eight points in December’s 16-16 draw with Australia in Sydney.
The former Tucuman LT man has also represented his country at ‘A’ and U20 levels, as well as appearing in an Argentina jersey at World Rugby 7s Series events in Dubai and Cape Town in 2016.
He will become the eighth Argentinian international to represent the Warriors, following in the footsteps of Francisco Leonelli, Bernardo Stortoni, Jose Piossek, Federico Aramburu, German Araoz, Gabriel Ascarate and – current Warrior – Enrique Pieretto.
