Gareth Anscombe's "devastating" mental woes

Welsh fly-half Gareth Anscombe is traversing a difficult road with “devastating” mental torment as he continues his rehabilitation from a serious knee injury.

The 29 year old suffered a setback recently which has prolonged his rehab and heightened his anguish as he struggles on. He last played rugby 14 months ago and is expected to be out for another year.

A recent tweet published by Anscombe said the following:

“14 months since the original injury. Not ideal having another setback but working hard with @welshrugbyunion and @ospreys_official physios and staff to get back to where I was. Happy to say stage one is completed. Still a long way to go but taking it one step at a time.”

“I’m gutted for him,” said Toby Booth, Anscombe’s Ospreys coach.

“No-one wants to be injured, especially for that period of time.

“We’re doing our best to try to move that along as we can, to get him fit.

“Irrespective of anything else, he’s a good guy, a good player and the game needs him back.

“The mental aspect of being out for so long is absolutely devastating.

“So he needs support from all quarters. It’s disappointing for everyone.”
