Trimble\s injury woe: Ulster winger Andrew Trimble has had his season cut drastically short, after it was confirmed yesterday that he would play no further part for either Ireland or his province due to a troublesome toe injury. Trimble, who was arguably Ireland’s finest exponent over the course of the last 18 months in a green jersey, suffered the injury initially back in October against the Glasgow Warriors during a Pro12 match. However, having recovered from the knock, he has since suffered a recurrence of the problem and underwent corrective survey on Thursday in London. 30-year old Trimble has not featured for Joe Schmidt’s Ireland since last June’s tour of Argentina and now faces a race against time to be fully fit for Ireland’s World Cup campaign later this year in England. Having been to two previous World Cups with Ireland and considering his form right up until his toe injury, Trimble will be a welcome addition to Schmidt’s plans, should he be able to prove his fitness in time.
Blow for Wilson: England’s destructive tight head prop Davey Wilson has been ruled out of action for a total of 12 weeks due to a worrying neck injury. Wilson, who currently plies his trade with big spending Bath in the Aviva Premiership, picke dup the injury just a few weeks back and it has now been confirmed that the former Newcastle Falcon requires surgery to relieve current pressure being placed on a nerve in his neck. The impingement in his neck spells the end of the Six Nations campaign for Wilson, with English head coach Stuart Lancaster expressing his disappointment at losing one of his in-form forwards at such a crucial time in the Championship. Upon completion of the necessary surgery, Wilson will return to his club Bath to begin his rehabilitation, and is expected to make a return to the field in roughly 12 weeks.
