Cooper signs on: Queensland Reds fans are waking up to good news this morning as reports emerge that flyhalf Quade Cooper has put pen to paper on a new deal to stay at the Brisbane based outfit. At 26, Cooper has already experienced a roller coaster of a career, earning over 50 caps for the Wallabies in the process. If reports are to be believed, Cooper’s extension takes his contract up to the close of the 2015 season. Having bounced back from a troublesome shoulder injury earlier this year, Cooper regained his Test match n.10 jersey for the final Bledisloe Cup clash of the year in Brisbane. Having been victorious in 32 of his 53 International Test matches, Cooper boasts one of the more impressive records around town.
Oxford rule roost: As Varsity Cup matches go, this was one of the more one-sided affairs at Twickenham yesterday, with Oxford running out 43-6 winners against Cambridge. A wholly one-sided affair from minute 1 to 80, Oxford were in control throughout, running in six unanswered tries in the process. Despite being sent off during last year’s Varsity encounter, it was Oxford’s Sam Egerton who opened the try scoring account for the Blues. With a 17-6 advantage at the interval, Oxford’s pressure continued to mount, as they ran in a further 4 tries in the second half, culminating in a convincing 43-6 victory in one of the most famous rugby games of the calendar year.
