Austin Healey
In what was Italy’s first Six Nations campaign in 2000 they were thumped by England at the Stadio Flamino with Healey playing one of his best games in an England jersey scoring a hat-trick of tries with England winning 59-12. The Championship ended with England finishing on top missing out on the grandslam and Italy ending their first tournament with the wooden spoon.
Jason Robinson
In the first round of games in the 2004 championship, England sent out a message to their rivals with an impressive 50-9 win in Rome. The English went over seven times in the game with Jason Robinson getting three of those tries. England finished third in the table that year with France securing the grandslam while Italy avoided the wooden spoon with Scotland finishing bottom of the pile.
Mark Cueto
In what was one of the worst Six Nations campaign for England in 2005, they went into the Italy game having lost their previous three games. There couldn’t of been a better time for the Italians to play them however they were blown away at Twickenham. England were able to get back to winning ways defeating the Italians 39-7 with Mark Cueto going over the whitewash three times. They finished the tournament with a win against Scotland finishing fourth overall with Wales securing the grandslam. Once again Italy were awarded the wooden spoon without winning a single game.
Chris Ashton
We saw the 'Ash Splash' not three times against Italy in 2011 but we witnessed it four times with Chris Ashton scoring four tries against Italy in a 59-13 win at Twickenham. It secured England their second win of the tournament but in the end they missed out on a grandslam after losing to Ireland in the final game. Italy were unable to avoid the wooden spoon but were able to secure their first win over France in the competition in a 22-21 win in Rome.
