Four Classic England vs New Zealand Tests At Twickenham

England and New Zealand have had a few memorable matches at Twickenham through the years and we thought we would bring touch on four of the best encounters.

The Red Roses do not have a pretty record against the All Blacks, as they currently have 18% win ratio against the South Hemisphere giants.

The English have also lost 14 out of their last 15 matches against the New Zealanders, their last victory was back in 2012.

Here are five memorable Test matches between the two nations at Twickenham: 

England 26-26 New Zealand – December 1997

New Zealand came into this game on the back of 11 consecutive Test wins, including three dominant tour victories – 63-15 against Ireland, 25-8 over England in Manchester and 42-7 in a one-sided clash with Wales.

The All Blacks had beat the Red Roses two weeks before this encounter and many thought this game would go down the same way, but the English came out firing.

New Zealand were trailing 23-9 at halftime but tries from Walter Little and Andrew Mehrtens, who also kicked 16 points, got them back into the match and they ended up drawing.

England 19-23 New Zealand – November 2005

In 2005, New Zealand completed their first Grand Slam tour of the UK and Ireland since 1978 and claimed their second ever clean sweep. An early Martin Corry try put England ahead but the All Blacks led 13-10 at half-time after a try from Tana Umaga.

Dan Carter inspired a second score for hooker Keven Mealamu and Carter's third penalty gave New Zealand a 23-13 lead. England fought back but it was too little too late in the end and ended up losing four points.

England 6-32 New Zealand – November 2008

New Zealand comfortably secured their second “Grand Slam” on their autumn tour in 2008, after an England were made to pay for their indiscipline display. The match saw the home side give away a host of penalties and had four players sin-binned as they slumped to their third straight defeat at Twickenham.

The All Blacks went into the break with a 12-3 lead and then ran rampant, as Full-back Mils Muliaina crossed twice in the right-hand corner while Ma'a Nonu added another as England tired.

England 38-21 New Zealand – December 2012

England pulled off one of the great victories in their history as they beat the world champions New Zealand at a rejoicing Twickenham.

At the time the All Blacks had been unbeaten in 20 matches but were completely outplayed as second-half tries from Brad Barritt, Chris Ashton and Manu Tuilagi took them to victory.
