FFR: Biarritz will not be allowed to play in Pro D2 unless all their debts are paid

The French Rugby Federation has released a statement confirming that Biarritz Olympique will not be allowed to play in Pro D2 unless they pay off their debts to the federation.

"The FFR strives to ensure fairness in the management of its network of clubs," wrote FFR in a statement.

"As a result, we apply the licensing rule in a uniform way, regardless of their level of competition. From this point of view, it is expected that all the clubs have settled their account before the start of a new season.

"To date, the Biarritz Olympique Rugby association is still indebted to the FFR. Faced with disputes between the association and the SASP (Société Anonyme Sportive Professionnelle), the FFR had, exceptionally, granted the issuance of licenses last season in exchange for the acceptance of a repayment schedule. However, this schedule was unfortunately not respected, and no agreement was reached between SASP and the Association, leaving the latter in a debit situation.

"The FFR Federal Office has made a decision today: until the debt is fully paid, the FFR will not issue licenses for the 23/24 season. This decision aims to maintain our principle of fairness between clubs.

"The FFR hopes for an immediate resolution of this situation so that the first day of Pro D2 can take place normally."
