Stuart Lancaster, the England head coach, has been given a boost with news that one of his key back-row forwards, the Gloucester No 8 Ben Morgan, is on the mend following a serious leg injury.

Morgan declared yesterday that he was “in a great place” after a decision reached ahead of schedule to remove the metal pin inserted into his lower left leg following the serious injury in January that threatened his participation in the Rugby World Cup.
