Cardiff Blues and Wales flanker Ellis Jenkins is closing in on his long-awaited return from injury after resuming training with Cardiff Blues.
The 27-year-old last took the field in 2018 when he suffered a horrendous injury in the test match against South Africa in November.
Jenkins has had three operations on his knee since suffering the injury.
He was subsequently ruled out of the Rugby World Cup in Japan and hasn't played since but Cardiff Blues assistant coach Richard Hodges has confirmed the flanker is expected to return to action in the near future.
"Ellis Jenkins trained fully [on Wednesday]. He is in a good spot," said Hodges.
"Hopefully we are not too far away, but it won’t be this weekend.
"We have a game for Ellis to aim for now. We will keep that internal, but things are looking very positive."
The combative flanker has 11 test caps to his name and will look to force his way back into contention once fully fit and firing for Cardiff.
In other news from the club, former Welsh international prop Dai Young has been appointed as the side’s new interim director of rugby.
The 53 year-old is no stranger to the Arms Park after having been in charge of the side some 10 years ago.
According to a report in cardiffblues.com, the appointment has been made with the view to hatching out a long-term deal in the weeks ahead.
Cardiff Blues chief executive Richard Holland said: “We were acutely aware of the need to bring on board an experienced director of rugby and Dai ticks all the boxes.
“He has an enormous history at the Arms Park, is passionate about the team and has added further vast experience while at Wasps for nine years.
“We are delighted to welcome him back to Cardiff Blues and are excited about the impact he can make within our set-up.
“While this is initially only a short-term deal, I know Dai’s desire is to come to a long-term agreement and he will be part of our process.
“There has already been widespread interest in the position and Nigel Walker will now led a selection panel, which will convene to agree the best outcome for Cardiff Blues.”
