Eddie Jones praises 'finishers' in comeback victory

Following England's come-from-behind sudden-death victory over France, England head coach Eddie Jones has praised his side’s fighting spirit.

England trailed at half time conceding 13 points and were behind by seven before staging a comeback and scoring a final minute try courtesy of replacement hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie set up sudden death extra time.

“We had to collect ourselves at half time and I was so pleased with the players in the second half,” said Jones. “You could see as the game went on we got stronger and stronger, our finishers did a superb job.”

Apart from Cowan-Dickie and Joe Marler, none of England’s finishers had more than 10 Test caps, and Jones credits them with being the catalyst behind the team’s momentum shift.

“We just had to keep fighting. You never think you’re going to lose a game, you always think you’re going to win, and I think the players had the right application for the job.”

Jones added: “We were just two or three percent off, we thought we had a good prep for the game but we were a little bit off, a bit slow on a few cleanouts, our passing wasn’t precise and we just needed to sharpen up. The players knew that and their application to do it was outstanding.

“We’re so happy with our victory; we’ve won the Six Nations and we’ve won the Autumn Nations Cup. We can’t do any more.”
