Eddie Jones agrees to pay cut
- 2020
England head coach Eddie Jones has agreed to take a pay cut in excess of 25 per cent, RFU chief executive Bill Sweeney has confirmed.
The Rugby Football Union (RFU) is facing revenue losses of up to £50million over the next 18 months due to the coronavirus pandemic with RFU chiefs and Jones have taken pay cuts to limit the financial impact on rugby’s governing body.
On Thursday, RFU chief executive Bill Sweeney said: “Eddie is overseas at present and when I contacted him regarding our executive pay reduction proposals he immediately agreed.”
It is understood the RFU is consulting with other England coaching staff about temporary salary reductions.
Jones is the highest-paid international rugby coach, earning in the region of £750,000 per year. Jones’ contract expires next summer, and talks over extending his stay are yet to take place.
