Caelan Doris
The former Blackrock College student was outstanding on his fifth appearance for Leinster in Newport tonight. He notched his first try for the club after an impressive 80 minute shift where he made 18 carries for a gain of 55 metres and never shirked from his defensive duties as he chipped in with 12 forceful tackles. The imposing Number eight shone with his ball-carrying power and ability to consistently make progress over the advantage line.
Scott Fardy
The stand-in captain once again outlined why he is one of the most versatile and important members of Leo Cullen's record breaking squad. The Wallaby marshalled his young troops around the heavy Rodney Parade pitch with intent and made sure every player stuck to their core duties. Fardy scored his side's third try just before the break to extend the score line to a comfortable margin as his side went into the dressing room. He carried 9 times and completed 8 tackles in defence to cap off a Man of the Match award winning performance.
Jimmy O'Brien
The Kildare native, making his first start for the province, touched down twice in the second half to round off a memorable occasion for the inside centre. His time in the Leinster Academy has been split between a highly successful spell with the Ireland Sevens side which has clearly enhanced his 15's ability as he showed some deft touches with ball in hand and physical approach in defence despite his lack of experience.
