Disciplinary: Ben Donnell (London Irish) and Nick David (Harlequins)

The cases of Ben Donnell, London Irish and Nick David, Harlequins were heard on Tuesday 1 November, by an independent disciplinary panel chaired by Matthew Weaver KC sitting with Alastair Campbell and Mitch Read.

Donnell was charged with a dangerous tackle contrary to World Rugby Law 9.13 after receiving a red card in the match against Harlequins on 29 October. He received a three week ban which may be reduced to two weeks if he successfully completes the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme (CIP).

Donnell will miss the following games:

  • 12 November v Exeter Chiefs (Premiership)
  • 18 November v TBC (Premiership Cup)
  • 17 November v Leicester Tigers (Premiership) * subject to completing CIP

Should the Premiership Cup game not take place, the suspension will also include the game on 3 December v Newcastle Falcons, again subject to completing CIP.

Donnell's full judgement is available here.

David was charged with a dangerous tackle contrary to World Rugby Law 9.13 after receiving a red card in the match against London Irish on 29 October.  He received a three week ban.

David will miss the following games:

17 November v Barbarians (Friendly)
18 November v Sale Sharks (Premiership Cup)
25 November v Gloucester (Premiership) *subject to completing CIP

Despite the short time between the matches on 17.11.2022 and 18.11.2002, the Panel was content that the Club genuinely intended to field the Player in both matches. As such, both matches will count as meaningful fixtures for the purposes of the sanction

David's full judgement is available here.
