Dave Rennie could leave the Wallabies before his first test as head coach

The Wallabies could be in the market for a new head coach with Dave Rennie not even coaching the national side in a single test match according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

According to the report by SMH, sources close to Wallabies coach Dave Rennie said the three-time Super Rugby title winner would reconsider his future if Rugby Australia chief Ralene Castle is let go.

Rennie is still in Scotland where he coaches Pro 14 side Glasgow Warriors and has reportedly been rattled by speculation over Castle's future and would reconsider his plans if she was sacked.

Castle under heavy criticism after the coronavirus crisis laid bare Rugby Australia's financial vulnerabilities and forced the organisation to again delay its broadcast deal negotiations and potential bankruptcy.

Rennie has spoken highly of Castle at every turn. He attributed his decision to join the Wallabies to a long lunch last year with the former Bulldogs and Netball New Zealand boss.

"I had a lot of time to think about it. I got an approach from Australia reasonably early on, so I did my homework," he said in January. "Raelene flew to Jersey, we had a sit down for a few hours. She really impressed me. Smart and tough, really keen for change, and driven. The fact I know [director of rugby Scott Johnson], I felt the leadership here was really strong, I felt they'd have my back. That was a big part of it."
