Crusaders v Blues - How the Blues broke the Christchurch Curse

The last time the Blues beat the Crusaders in Christchurch Carlos Spencer started a move that would turn out to be one of the most memorable tries in Super Rugby history, this was 18 years ago!

A new hero emerged with a moment of magic on attack with Beauden Barrett hitting his world conquering form again and Rieko Ioane putting in a huge defensive effort at 13, noteable a try saving tackle at the death, here are the key moments from one of Super Rugby's greatest games.

16' Will Jordan Try:

The Blues took an early lead with a penalty but David Havili was at the heart of the opening try f the game as he puts Will Jordan in for a try who ran a superb line after the Blues midfield were forced to defend very narrow.

30' Dalton Papali'i Try:

This was the visitors second try of the night but it was scored by their captain and started by Beauden Barrett who looked untouchable for a moment. The Blues lead 7-17 at the break with David Havili sent to the bin late on after spoiling the ball from a line break.

45' Scott Barrett Red Card:

A high tackle saw Crusaders lose their captain but with the new 20 minute Red Card Law they were only down to 13 men (Due to Havili's Yellow Card) for a few minutes and down to 14 for about 17 minutes. Ironically the Crusaders played some of their best rugby during this period with Richie Mo'unga putting the Blues under pressure and the Blues forced into a huge defensive period.

50' Beauden Barrett Skills:

Barrett came very close to taking the game away from the Crusaders with a simply remarkable show of skills that he could just not finish

54' Sevu Reece Try:

14 man Crusaders were running the Blues ragged and Reece scored a try to bring them back into the game. At this stage it was looking like the tide would turn and the home side would run away with it.

69' Sevu Reece Try:

15 man Crusaders pushing the Blues and score. They trail by 4 points and are looking good for a great come from behind win in Christchurch.

78' Rieko Ioane Try Saver:

Rieko Ioane had one of his best defensive games at 13 making 16 of his 18 tackles and produced a simply superb try saving and match winning tackles. He did this with the help of captain Dalton Papali'i and the Blues went on to win after that.
