Good old Aunty BBC – their annual sports awards on Sunday served up another emotional mix of personalities and human endeavour to record the nation's sporting success stories of the past year. Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton topped the poll for the big one, followed by golfing sensation and bookies' favourite Rory McIlroy who bagged second spot.
