Champions Cup Round 5 Review:
Leinster, ASM Clermont, Munster and holders, Saracens, have all booked their places in the knockout stage. Should all 4 clubs win their Round 6 matches, they will be guaranteed home quarter-finals.
With Leinster travelling to Castres, Clermont hosting Exeter Chiefs, Munster at home to Racing Metro and Saracens facing Toulon at Allianz Park.
Should Connacht and Wasps win their Round 6 games in Pool 2 against Toulouse and Zebre, both will secure their places in the last eight.
Three time champions, Toulon, have to beat Saracens in Pool 3 this Saturday, to guarantee a quarter-final spot.
If Glasgow Warriors beat Leicester Tigers in Pool 1 at Welford Road on Saturday, they will go through to the knockout stage as a best runner-up for the first time in their history.
Since the tournament format was changed in 2014/15, the lowest total for a best runner-up to qualify for the quarter-finals is 17 points by Saracens.
Individual Statistics:
Chris Ashton’s two tries in Saracens’ dramatic last-ditch draw at Scarlets moves him up to 33 on the tournament’s all-time list, level with Brian O’ Driscoll.
Toulon’s Mathieu Bastareaud made his 50th tournament appearance in yesterday’s win over a hugely competitive Sale Sharks.
CJ Stander of Munster is the leading tournament ball carrier with 82 to date, while Connacht’s Tiernan O’ Halloran has made the most metres with an impressive 525.
Johnny Sexton brought his European Cup career points total to 501 in the big win over Montpellier and the Leinster man is now 8th on the all-time list.
Glasgow captain, Jonny Gray, leads the tackling statistics with 72.
Isa Nacewa is currently this season’s top points scorer with 75 points and the Leinster captain is also the leading try scorer with 6.
Saracens’ draw at Parc y Scarlets meant they missed out on setting a new tournament record of 14 consecutive wins.
