Champions Cup: QF highlights ahead of the semis

A thrilling quarter-final round in the Champions Cup grabbed the attention of Europe this weekend as the semi-finals take on a distinctly Franco-Irish look.

A titanic struggle at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin ended in heartbreak for Munster as Toulouse snatched victory through a penalty shoot-out.

La Rochelle dominated Montpellier at Stade Marcel-Deflandre. Montpellier’s discipline turned out to be the difference between the sides as La Rochelle slotted four penalties while Montpellier managed none. Both teams crossed the whitewash three times.

La Rochelle flanker Victor Vito showed he still has plenty of juice in his legs with a man-of-the match performance.

Leicester looked dead and buried at half-time as they trudged off the field 20 points adrift of Leinster at Welford Road. However, the home side came out firing in the second half, scoring two tries while displaying quality defence, allowing Leinster only three more points.

In the final game of the round, Racing 92 turned the screws on Sale Sharks at Paris La Défense Arena, running out 41-22 winners.

Racing scored four tries and slotted five penalties while Sale ran in three tries and knocked over only one penalty.

Thus, the semi-finals shape up as follows:

Racing 92 will run out at home to face La Rochelle, while defending champs Toulouse will host Leinster.
