Cardiff win derby spoils at St Helen's
- 87
It was a tough night at St Helen's for our third Welsh derby of the season. Visitors Cardiff set the tempo and came away with the win as Ospreys suffered four tries held up over the line.
The first score of the game went to the visitors. A penalty gave Cardiff the opportunity to go for a linenout bordering the home five. The Ospreys pack stopped the maul but after a few phases Cardiff worked it out wide to Bowen who finished. Jarrod Evans converted. Ospreys 0 - 7 Cardiff.
The Ospreys came back with an instant reaction as Ryan Smith turned the ball over in the carry from kick off. The Ospreys maul powered on and Cardiff conceded multiple penalties in succession before Ospreys crossed the whitewash, but the try was held up. We went over a second time in quick succession, but it was once again held up over the line and Cardiff cleared from the goal line drop out.
In a notable battle amongst the packs, Ospreys came away with the dominant win and penalty at the first scrum.
But, Cardiff soon added to their tally. They rescued the ball from a collapsed scrum and got it into the hands of Tom Bowen who was lightning quick on the strike attack. Jarrod Evans converted. Ospreys 0 - 14 Cardiff.
Play slowed down in the second quarter as both defensive lines held firm, until Cardiff once again crossed the whitewash when Josh Adams recovered a well-placed grubber kick to dot down. Conversion missed. Ospreys 0 - 19 Cardiff.

HALF TIME: OSPREYS 0 - 19 CARDIFF
The first opportunity of the second half went to Ospreys. A scrum penalty in the 22 gave the boys the lineout on the five, but Cardiff were ferocious on the turnover and once again recovered the ball. This became the story of the half, as Ospreys entries into the Cardiff redzone were continously held out or turned over.
With just under 60 minutes played, Ospreys were hunting the first score of the second half as the forwards rumbled over, only to be held up once again.
Ooportunities had been few in the second half but Cardiff were clinical with their chances, scoring from their first trip into the 22 as they sent the maul over. Sheedy converted. Ospreys 0 - 26 Cardiff.
Harri Williams injected some pace into the game when he came on at scrum-half for Ospreys and made a few darting breaks through the middle. One such run sent Keelan sprinting down the wing to cross in the corner at the Mumbles End, but our quest for points was once again held up over the line: the story of the game.
FULL TIME: OSPREYS 0 - 26 CARDIFF.
