Carbery Ruled Out Of Summer Tour

Carbery Ruled Out Of Summer Tour

Leinster out-half Joey Carbery has been ruled out of the remainder of Ireland's summer tour through ankle injury.

Carbery suffered the injury in Saturday's victory against USA in the Red Bull Arena, New Jersey.

He will be out of action for four weeks, a tough blow for the promising fly-half.

"It’s a grade 2/3 high ankle sprain, and we won’t be bringing anyone else into the squad. Obviously Paddy Jackson is here already so he can come straight in. We’re well covered for goal-kicking.

"Rory Scannell has been working away at that and Garry Ringrose has been doing a little bit as well, which he hasn’t done in a long time. We’re comfortable enough with the guys we have there now."  Ireland skills coach Richie Murphy told the Irish Independent.

Paddy Jackson, who missed the game in the USA for personal reasons, will be available for Japan, while Connacht out-half Jack Carty is understood to be one of many players on standby.

Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt, also confirmed that Tiernan O’Halloran’s injury was nothing more than cramp, said they did not think that Carbery’s problem stemmed from the syndesmosis issue which sidelined the out-half for Leinster in December.
