Ospreys will start their 2014-15 Pro12 campaign, at home to Treviso on Friday, without captain Alun Wyn Jones.
The Wales and British and Irish Lions lock's heavy regional and international commitments in the last 12 months have led his coaches to make the decision.
Assistant coach Gruff Rees announced the 29-year-old's absence.
Fellow Lions forwards Richard Hibbard, Adam Jones, Ian Evans and Ryan Jones have left Ospreys during the off-season.
