Brive flanker retires after concussion struggles

Brive flanker Petrus Hauman has called time on his playing career following a number of head knocks and concussions.

Hauman spent three years at Aurillac before joining Brive ahead of the 2011/12 season. Speaking to France Bleu Hauman said "I'm only 31 years old so I still have more than half of my life ahead of me"

The flanker was knocked out three times last season and was rested for three months after consulting a neurologist. "After a month and a half, I still did not feel very well." he said.

"There is a life after rugby and you should not take too much risk.

Hauman is still struggling with headaches and concentrating and had he continued to play the issues could have got even worse.

" Rugby is a contact sport, and there are unfortunately risks in all sports and throughout life ."

Haumn retires having played 143 games for Brive.
