The former Lions centre opted for three Irishman in his XV. He has also opted for a largely settled and experienced side to take on the Springboks this summer.

Nine of the players in the side started in the Lions’ third test against the All Blacks four years ago.

Six Welshman start for O'Driscoll along with five English players, three Irish players and one Scottish player.

Commenting on the centres, O'Driscoll said: "I think you've got to have a kicking game at 12 or 13 - I think Farrell will play 12."

"Right now, if they are playing South Africa next week, it is Farrell and Henshaw for me in the centre."
