Biggar shines as Saints end losing streak

Wales and Northampton fly-half Dan Biggar was a stand-out performer as his side finally cut the head off a 12-game losing streak as they downed Worcester 29-10 at Franklin’s Gardens yesterday.

Biggar was busy, to say the least, scoring a try, setting up another and knocking over two penalties and a conversion, but was quick to acknowledge his teammates for their welcome achievement.

"Nobody wants to continue to lose games week in, week out but this group - for what it is - it's got a group of really good men, good people at the club, all epitomised by the boss.

"The boss has come in every day and he's been positive, he's kept things black and white, there's been no grey areas, he's kept things in perspective with what's going on in the world at the minute.

"This is for him, really. He deserves a huge amount of credit for the way he's kept a real energy about the place.

"This is a big one for him, really.

"I think we played some really good rugby in that first half and probably should have been a fair bit more ahead if we're honest.

"It's been such a challenging year. Before lockdown, we were sort of dusting teams up and second in the league, qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions Cup and everything was sort of rosy.

"Then for whatever reason - we still can't quite put our finger on it - we haven't been able to come back the same team. Winning is a habit but losing becomes a bit of a habit as well.

"I'm just pleased for this young group, really, who deserve this victory, especially the forwards. They fronted up exceptionally well and it's really nice to finish 2020 on a little bit of a high."

Saints’ next fixture will be against London Irish in the new year, they and their supporters will be hoping that 2021 brings with it greater fortune than 2020 has.
