Benetton Rugby is pleased to announce the signing of Italian utility back François Carlo Mey . The player will wear the green and white jersey from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2030. Mey, a highly talented young man, represents one of the most exciting prospects in the Italian rugby scene. His versatility allows him to cover multiple positions in the back line—centre, wing, and fullback—offering valuable solutions in terms of balance, creativity, and defensive solidity.
Born on July 1, 2003, in Parma, he developed his rugby career between Italy and France. Mey is physically well-built (187 cm tall and 97 kg), and stands out for his combination of speed, agility, and vision. Offensively, he can attack the line decisively, create numerical superiority, or serve as a distributor for his teammates. Defensively, he stands out for his solid tackling and ability to read the opposition's lines.
Mey's career began in Emilia. He began his career in the Noceto youth teams, before continuing his development at historic clubs such as Amatori Parma and Rugby Parma. His technical and athletic development was further consolidated at Colorno Rugby. His key characteristics emerged already at this stage: explosive running, the ability to attack the line, and a natural reading of space. His breakthrough came with the Italy Under-20 team , where he stood out during the 2021 and 2022 Six Nations tournaments. In these two editions of the tournament, he managed to make his mark, scoring four tries in total. His performances did not go unnoticed, and in 2022 he made the leap to France, moving to Clermont . During his time with Clermont, he made notable debuts in both the Top 14 and the Champions Cup. In 2024, Mey embarked on a new chapter in his career, moving to Soyaux-Angoulême , a club competing in ProD2. Over the course of two seasons, he made 21 appearances and scored three tries. Now, he's returning to Italy to play for the Lions, where he'll bring quality and depth to the attacking midfield.
“ I'm coming to Treviso after four years in France, which helped me grow tremendously, both as a player and as a person, competing in very competitive leagues. Last season, I found consistency and confidence, and this helped me take another step forward. Returning to Italy and doing so with a team like Benetton Rugby is a great opportunity: I want to give my all, put myself at the service of the team, and continue to improve day after day, ” said Mey .
" We've been following François's career in France closely, and we also remember his performances with the U20 national team in Monigo well. He's a modern, well-rounded player, with great talent and plenty of room for growth. One aspect we consider particularly important is his versatility: his ability to cover multiple roles in defence represents a significant added value for the team. We're also very pleased to bring a player of this calibre back to Italy. His addition is part of our strategy to build a competitive team with identity and quality. We're confident that in Treviso he'll find the ideal environment to express his full potential and make a further leap in quality, " said President Antonio Pavanello .
