Baby Boks excited for Samoa clash
The Baby Boks are ready for a fresh challenge when they tackle Samoa this Saturday in the second round of the U20 World Championship.
South Africa came through their opener against the hosts with a 33-5 victory on Tuesday, scoring five tries in the process after they went behind in the opening minutes.
Training in the early evening in Parma to avoid the afternoon heat will benefit the side going into the weekend, with the coaches plotting how best to overturn a Samoa side who were beaten 34-22 by Australia.
U20 coach Dawie Theron wasn’t happy about several parts of South Africa’s game in the Italy win and hopes to see his side make progress on the weekend while playing against a very different side.
“Italy had a good kicking game and they played with a lot of determination in front of their supporters, which we expected. Samoa will bring a different challenge and we will have to be patient and more clinical at the breakdown,” said Theron.
“We have a very competitive pool and good defense is therefore vital. We made too many handling mistakes against Italy and that is something we cannot afford again because Samoa have the ability to hurt you from turnovers.”
