Australia prepared for JWC
Australia U20s star Andrew Kellaway feels the side are better prepared than ever to challenge for Junior World Championship glory this year.
Kellaway will captain the side in Italy and was a standout performer in last year’s competition, finishing the tournament with ten tries to his name.
The 19-year-old is on the books with the Waratahs but his focus is on trying to guide Australia to a first U20 title after coming fifth in 2014.
Kellaway’s confidence stems from the side preparing by playing in the Oceania Championships last month, where they lost to New Zealand in the final.
“The Oceania event was hugely important,” Kellaway said.
“To be able to play those high calibre and high intensity games leading into the World Championship is something that is priceless really for our preparation and a step in the right direction for competing with the northern hemisphere sides.
“We have had our time to get rid of cobwebs and get our systems in place and I think now is the time to get going.
“That is definitely one of the components we have been missing, our preparation has always been a bit hindered by Super Rugby and all the things going on there, but fingers crossed things go our way this year.”
