Aubrey pens new deal

Ospreys have announced that scrum-half, Matthew Aubrey, is the latest player to sign a new deal, committing to the Region for another two years.
It caps a memorable season for the 21-year old that has seen him gain the most game time for the Ospreys yet, starting in Guinness PRO14 and Challenge Cup fixtures.
“I’m happy to get pen to paper, it’s a proud moment for me” said Aubrey.
“It’s been great to be involved in some big games, and to get some starts as well, touring South Africa, it’s been a great experience for me and hopefully I can build on this and get more game time.
“I used to go down to the Liberty on a Friday night to watch the Ospreys as a youngster, players like James Hook, Alun Wyn, and to be playing with them is a dream come true.”
Having come through the ranks via Pontarddulais RFC, Aubrey was a WRU Regional Age Grade winner with the Ospreys U18 team in 2015, alongside the likes of Keelan Giles and Owen Watkin.
He has featured regularly for Swansea RFC in recent seasons, playing 35 games and scoring 32 points for the Principality Premiership side.
For the Ospreys, his senior debut came in November 2016 against Harlequins at St Helens in the Anglo Welsh Cup. He has now made 23 appearances, 11 of them coming this season, scoring one try.
Head Coach, Allen Clarke, welcomed the news, saying:
“Matthew has been an important member of the squad during the latter stages of this season when he was involved in some important matches.
“He’s still young, still learning the game, but he is a popular member of the squad, an intelligent rugby player who wants to learn and improve, and is a good fit for us. It was an easy decision to retain his services for another two seasons.”
Aubrey takes the number of players re-signing ahead of next season to eight, along with first senior contracts for teenagers Harri Morgan and Tiaan Thomas-Wheeler, and the signing of Wales star Gareth Anscombe.
