When: Saturday March 9, 2024 2:00pm EST
Where: Veterans Memorial Stadium, Quincy, MA
Match Preview:
Fresh off a resounding 46-13 win against Anthem RC in the season opener, the Free Jacks are back at Veterans Memorial Stadium for their 2024 home opener. The last time the team played at ‘Fort Quincy’ was in the 2023 conference final against Old Glory DC. Now for the first time this season, the eastern conference rivals meet again on Saturday.
For the Free Jacks, this will be the first time playing in front of their home crowd after being crowned champions last year, and they’ll look to extend their unbeaten record at home from 2023 into this new season.
After a stellar performance in Carolina, Josh Larsen, Jayson Potroz and ‘Man of the Match’ Reece Macdonald will once again lead the Free Jacks as they look to set the tone against a physical DC side. Other players to keep an eye on for this game will be Canadian Kyle Baille, who faces his former team, and New Zealander Danyon Morgan-Puterangi, who had an excellent debut against Anthem.
Scouting
In their first game of the season, Old Glory DC lost 18-6 in a hard fought game in New Orleans against the NOLA Gold. With a lot of new faces in the lineup, DC struggled to find their rhythm against a hungry NOLA team. One of the few bright spots in that game for DC was fullback Jason Robertson, back in the nation’s capital after two years in France, who kicked all of his team’s points and added some spark to their attack play.
Old Glory DC is a physical team that likes to cut through the middle with the likes of USA Eagles Jamason Fa’anana-Schultz, Cory Daniel, and new addition Tommaso Boni. On defense, DC does not allow much space on the outside, and they pride themselves in competing for turnovers in every breakdown through hard-working players like Lautaro Bavaro and Jack Iscaro.
