All the action from Round 5 of Super Rugby Unlocked

Round 5 of Super Rugby Unlocked saw the South African sides do battle once again in three fixtures which saw the Sharks, Stormers and Bulls posting wins against the Cheetahs, Griquas and Lions respectively.

Sharks vs Cheetahs:

33 minutes elapsed before the first points were put on the board as the Sharks hosted the Cheetahs in their Round 5 fixture at Kings Park.

After a tough first half, the teams jogged off to the shed with the score at 6-0 in favour of the hosts – both penalties coming courtesy of Curwin Bosch.

In the face of stringent defence the Cheetahs posted the first try of the match in the 71st minute to take the score to 13-9.

The men from Free State picked up a second yellow card shortly thereafter and thus were forced to complete the game with fourteen men on the pitch which the Durbanites took advantage of, scoring a try t reclaim the lead 16-13.

A penalty in the dying minutes sealed it for the Sharks as they recorded their second victory of the tournament.

Griquas vs Stormers:

As was expected, the Stormers left Kimberley with a win under the belt, defeating Griquas 39-6. Warrick Gelant shone as the Stormers dished out a dominant display, outscoring their opponents by six tries to none.

With the score at 15-3 at half-time, the Stormers had plenty left in the tank as they added another four tries to their tally.

The Griquas pack had trouble fronting up to the tough Stormers unit while the latter’s back were in great form.

The men from Cape Town now find themselves at second position on the log behind the high-flying Bulls.

Lions vs Bulls:

Only five points separated the teams as the final whistle sounded – the Bulls recording their fourth victory from five outings to maintain their place at the top of the log.

A tightly contested game saw the Bulls forwards edge out their counterparts, albeit only just. The visitors were five points adrift at the conclusion of the first half but controlled the second stanza well to post their win.
