Adam Hastings banned and will miss two Six Nations matches for Scotland

Glasgow Warriors flyhalf Adam Hastings has been suspended for three games following his red card against Leinster on Sunday.

The ban covers the next three weekends which rules him out of Glasgow’s Pro14 clash with Zebre on Saturday and Scotland’s Six Nations matches against Ireland on March 14 (or Glasgow’s game with Ospreys that weekend) and Italy on March 20.

The news was confirmed with the following statement on Thursday.

Adam Hastings of Glasgow Warriors has been banned for a period of three games as a result of his red card in the Guinness PRO14 Round 13 fixture with Leinster on Sunday, February 28, 2021.

The Player was shown a red card by Referee Frank Murphy (IRFU) under Law 9.11 Players must not do anything that is reckless or dangerous to others.

The Disciplinary Process of the red card offence was presided over by Judicial Officer Owain Rhys James (WRU), who concluded that an act of foul play had occurred. The incident was found to merit a mid-range entry point, which indicates a six-week suspension for this offence.

The Judicial Officer determined that there were mitigating factors, including the player’s acceptance of the foul play, immediate and genuine remorse, cooperation with the disciplinary proceedings and clear disciplinary record, which under the disciplinary rules warranted a reduction in the sanction of 50 percent.

The Player is suspended from participating in the next 3 meaningful matches. Should a game be postponed or cancelled during this window of games, the player and PRO14 are to submit updated fixtures to the Judicial Officer so the return date can be advised.

The Player is free to play from midnight on Sunday 21st March 2021 and this sanction ensures he will be unavailable for three games (listed below) and can face Dragons in Round 16. The ban also covers a game the Player could have been selected for on the weekend of March 12/13/14 when both Glasgow Warriors and Scotland have fixtures.

Please note: The following fixtures are relevant to the playing ban notice above and that A fixtures arranged by a union with the specific intent to prepare players for first-team games are considered as meaningful.

Guinness PRO14 R14 Glasgow Warriors v Zebre Rugby Club
Guinness PRO14 R15 Glasgow Warriors v Ospreys Rugby (and the Scotland v Ireland Six Nations fixture)
