6 Nations Saturday Round-Up
Scotland 9-15 England
An early try through George Kruis gave them the lead early on. Good line speed and a huge tackle count prevented a Scottish try but the home side kept in touch through the boot of Laidlaw.
The second half saw a dominant forward performance from England that gave them the edge. The winning score came from Jack Nowell after some great play to spin the ball wide, including a tremendous offload from Mako Vunipola, which put the final nail in the coffin.
Billy Vunipola was outstanding for England, his work rate and power was crucial to England and he has nailed down that 8 spot for England. James Haskell also performed superb at 7, with Robshaw also impressing at 6. Scotland will feel they were neck and neck with the away side but they lacked any attacking edge and the English defence was quite strong.
MOTM: Billy Vunipola
France 23-21 Italy
France did enough to claim victory over Italy at Stade de France but it wasn't all plain sailing.
Although messy at times, the French attack caused problems out wide for the Italian defence scoring two first half tries in the corner through debutante Virimi Vakatawa and Damien Chouly. Italy however bounced back with a powerful maul with Parisse finishing off a well executed maul. With both kickers struggling the game was close at the break.
Italy looked stronger in the second half exploiting a weak French defence and taking the lead through a Canna try. France then came back with a Bonneval try and with Plisson kicking well they took the lead. A last gasp drop goal from Parisse would have been enough to win but it wasn't to be for the Italians.
Life under Guy Noves for France not got off to the most exciting start but a win is a win.
MOTM: Sergio Parisse
