3 Best Performers of the Night

Joey Carberry - Leinster

It was an outhalf masterclass from 20 year old Joey Carberry tonight in his first start for Leinster. He kicked intelligently and accurately when required and he caused the Treviso defence a lot of problems when he ran with the ball in hand. His pace and clever footwork was clear to see in the scoring of his second try, while his first try was a great display of his strength and power. Perhaps most impressive was his ability to manage and control the game, especially at such a young age. The future is definitely bright for this young man and for Leinster Rugby,

Ruan Pienaar - Ulster

After a difficult week for Ruan Pienaar he was able to put the controversy behind him and put in a much neede performance in Ulster's season opener in the PRO 12. He marshalled his backline well and displayed great leadership throughout the game. His unwaivering efforts were rewarded when he successfully charged down an attempted clearance kick by Newport and regathered the ball, touching down for Ulster's third try of the evening. His ability to excellently lead his team to a comfortable victory is what solidified his status as man of the match.

Sam Parry - Ospreys

Sam Parry took advantage of a dominant Ospreys pack and in particular a dominant rolling maul to get on the scoresheet three times. Time and time again he found himself at the back of a maul with the ball in hand as his teammates stormed over the Zebre defence who could do nothing to stop them. His lineouts were accurate throughout the night and he carried well in the loose. Overall it was a great performance from the hooker who thoroughly deserved the man of the match award.
