2018 NRC Round 1: Sydney Rays vs NSW Country Eagles

The Eagles got themselves an early lead with a try from Jake Gordon which was soon followed by a try from Alex Newsome, both being converted by Mack Mason bringing the score to 0-14. Shortly afterwards the Rays retaliated and got their first five points through the hands of Curtis Rona (22') with Will Harrison missing the convesion. The Eagles were next to increase their score with a try from Tolu Latu (35') being converted by Mack Mason once again. But the Rays did well to reply under pressure, scoring a try of their own through substitute Shambecler Vui. This brought the scores to 12-21 as Will Harrison did well to convert. The second half got off to a slow start as the first points came through a Jake Gordon try in the 64th minute which was converted. Jake Gordon showed more of his class and scored yet another try to get a hat-trick in the 72nd minute with Mack Mason missing the conversion, bringing the score to 12-33. This was the last points to be scored by the Eagles as the Rays continuously pushed the Eagles for the next few minutes with a try finally coming in the hands of Hugh Sinclair (77') and a conversion from Harry Burey. But it proved too little, too late as the Eagles took their first win of the season with a 19-33 win over the Sydney Rays.
