“We need to apologise to the supporters" - Chris Boyd slams Northampton's performance against Benetton
- 2791
Northampton Saints director of rugby Chris Boyd apologised for a “disgustingly dreadful” display against Benetton at Franklin's Gardens on Sunday despite his side coming away with a 33-20 victory.
Saints kept alive their Champions Cup quarter-finals hopes alive with the victory but Boyd was appalled by the quality of the display.
Boyd's side secured the bonus in the 72nd minute but the error-prone side was trailing Benetton 5-8 at the break.
The real switch in the Northampton side's performance came in the 55th minute when Springbok scrumhalf Cobus Reinach replaced Henry Taylor. Reinach assisted all three tries side Saints scored after his inclusion in the game with his winger Taqele Naiyaravoro also stepped up to make over 130 running metres, and earned a place in our team of the week.

Fair to say Chris Boyd wasn't pleased with today's performance, despite maximum points. pic.twitter.com/B2wcP3sgIV
